The largest public gallery in Durham Region, the RMG occupies an inspired 36,000 square foot building designed by world-renowned architect Arthur Erickson. Featuring a Permanent Collection of over 4000 works of art, four galleries of diverse & changing exhibitions, vibrant programs, Arthur’s on the 4th event space, the RMG Shop, Library and Archives, The Thomas Bouckley Collection and two art & education studios, the RMG is located in downtown Oshawa beside City Hall and the McLaughlin Branch of the Oshawa Public Library.
In addition to collecting art, the RMG acquires research materials. Its Library is the largest art library in Durham Region devoted to fine art and the history of visual arts with a focus on Canadian art. Alongside the library collection is the Gallery Archives, which include artist files, sketchbooks, exhibition histories and more. Of particular local interest are the archives of Isabel McLaughlin (Canadian Group of Painters) and Alexandra Luke (Painters Eleven), both of the famed McLaughlin family ofOshawa.
The Thomas Bouckley Collection at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery is a photographic collection compiled by Thomas Bouckley which focuses on the history of Oshawa. It consists of over 4000 items including photographs, documents, artefacts and ephemera.
